GENERAL INFORMATION / ETIQUETTE
WHAT: Claremont Societe’ Croquet has been in existence here for almost 20 years. If you’ve ever played this game, or would like to learn and join in, please read the rest of this page and see our rules and other documents located on our Croquet tab under Clubs and Groups at www.ClaremontCivic.com. We love to have new members; See our current season Contact Listing for more or specific info. Some beverages are provided (wine, beer & soft drinks) and appetizers are supplied by our group – see the sign-up sheet on Mondays (potluck appetizers).
WHEN: Claremont residents who enjoy this game meet every Monday at 5pm from mid-June through September for the annual croquet season. If interested, please see the Contact tab or come and you can join on site. RAIN OR SHINE: We will convene rain or shine. In heavy rain, we will still meet and socialize – inside. We will play as long as the weather permits, so plan on coming every Monday throughout the season unless there is a holiday week with no play. Please refer to the Annual Contacts & Info document for specifics and ‘No Play’ weeks during the current season.
WHERE: Each Monday both Lawn Croquet and Golf Croquet are played on four courts which are located on the northeast end of the Claremont Clubhouse. Once you arrive, you must sign up if you’re going to play LAWN or GOLF Croquet. There is a Sign Up table and sheets near the courses. Be sure to sign up for the game you want to play. You can only sign up for ONE game at a time, thus giving everyone an equal chance of playing. You must be onsite to sign up for a game. Please do not leave the court during a game. There are also name tags at the Sign Up table; please make and wear a new name tag each Monday.
WHY: Because it’s FUN – and a great reason to get together for an active and social time with neighbors we know. It’s also a great way to meet your neighbors.
DUES: The dues are $20/each person for one season of play, due by or before the first time you play. Your dues cover the cost of beverages each Monday (beer, wine, soft drinks) and supplies to keep our Mondays running smoothly. Bring exact amount of cash or a blank check. Do not fill in the Payable To section – we will do that as the name changes each season (Treasurer). We will have an End of Season Get Together, catered and there will be an additional cost; Location TBD.
APPAREL: All Societe’ Croquet players must wear all white apparel, shoes and hats, etc.
FOOD: All Societe’ Croquet players should sign up to bring appetizers on at least 2 of our Mondays, and appetizers should serve 15-20 people. Up to 8 people each Monday will bring an appetizer and everyone enjoys the socialization aspect along with the food and beverages. RAIN OR SHINE: Bring your appetizers even if there’s bad weather as we will still eat, drink & socialize, inside. If you signed up to bring food on a Monday and are unable to bring it – you should find a replacement that will ‘sub’ for you and bring food. You can also look on the sign-up sheet and possibly trade weeks with someone.
VOLUNTEER: All Societe’ Croquet players should volunteer for one of the several Volunteer positions available – for the next season . There are not many positions, they are all easy & fun, and the season goes by really fast!
